Historically we are the oldest Presbyterian congregation in Auckland. We date our beginnings from 4th May 1847.
Construction of the Church building commenced in December of that year. The Church finally opened for public worship on 7th April 1850 and we have been worshipping here every Sunday since then. For a more detailed account of our history check out the “history” section of our website.
St. Andrew’s comprises English and Indonesian speaking components with separate language services available for each group.
We come from all over the greater Auckland area because we find a special ministry here in this place along with a warm and caring fellowship.
A traditional yet contemporary Presbyterian style of worship
is reflected in the content of our 10am "International" service (in
English).
Like every group in society we have hopes and aspirations. These are summarised
in the following Mission Statement and Statement of Objectives :
Mission Statement
To know Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour and to make Him known, through the building of a strong congregation of worship, in the inner city.
Statement of Objectives
To become a model multi cultural church in Auckland.
To accept, and commit ourselves to, opportunities for Christian outreach.
To promote the spiritual growth of our members through meaningful worship and Bible study
To support each other in living the Christian life to foster the welfare of our parish; the elderly, the young, families and individuals in need of help
To welcome in Christ’s love all visitors and strangers who approach our doors, particularly those in need
To acknowledge and appreciate the historic foundations of St Andrew’s whilst building a living Church that is relevant to our times
Above all to bind ourselves continually through prayer to our Lord Jesus Christ and, in so doing, seek to fulfil his purpose for us and this Church in the inner city.
We invite you to join with us in our worship and ministry
